A Simrik Air helicopter chartered by International Medical Corps made an emergency landing in Samagaun Village Development Committee in Gorkha District, northwest of Kathmandu. All five people on board, including the pilot and three Nepali volunteers for International Medical Corps, are safe.
“Our team members are now back in Kathmandu, and we ask that they be given privacy,” said Chris Skopec, International Medical Corps’ Senior Director of Emergency Preparedness and Response. “We understand that Nepali experts will investigate the incident, and we will cooperate with that investigation. Right now, we are just grateful that everyone who was on the helicopter is safe.”
International Medical Corps has been working to support the Government of Nepal’s earthquake relief and recovery effort since the first earthquake struck Nepal on April 25, 2015. The helicopter was chartered for the day to transport relief team members and water, sanitation and hygiene supplies to remote earthquake-affected villages in Gorkha District.
